What is your first memory of being embraced by another guy?
Who was it with and when did it happen?

My earliest memories of embracing would probably be my grandfather’s. Whenever we would get to their home or whenever we’re leaving we’d also give him a hug and a kiss. And when you’re leaving it’s always a little longer hug. You just don’t know when you’re going to come back.

How do you and your father, or father figures, greet each other?

[My father] was always giving us hugs, always very affectionate…He learned because he didn’t have a good relationship with his dad. His dad was very cold and stern and maybe he wanted to be the opposite…and not pass that on to his kids. He really wanted to show us how much he loved us so we always had strong hugs from my dad. There was never a sense of like, ‘does this guy love me?’ Nah, it was like ‘this guy loves me.’

What does “masculinity” mean to you?

Do you even identify with that term?
